Why Magnuson Park Theater Association?
Magnuson Park Theater is special. It is a much-needed venue in North Seattle for community performing arts and other important presentations housed in a building with historical significance. Built in 1942, it is currently an aging gem in need of significant repairs, maintenance and renovation if it is to continue its tradition of serving as a community hub.
While Broadway Bound Children’s Theatre was selected by Seattle Parks & Recreation through a competitive bid process conducted in 2019 to manage and renovate the theater, revitalizing the theater for all to use and enjoy will require community engagement and support. The Magnuson Park Theater Association was established as a channel that will encourage community involvement in and support for refurbishing the theater.
Access to available grant funding to cover costs associated with restoring the theater will be bolstered by evidence that the community genuinely cares about the theater and believes in its potential for enhancing community life in North Seattle. Input from the organizations that will be using the theater in the future, to ensure that it will be revitalized to support many different uses is also extremely important. One of Magnuson Park Theater Association’s most important function is as a pathway for communication and dialogue about how best this unique public asset can best serve the community.
